A Bite to Eat and Greta Van Fleet at the Forest Hills Stadium
How can you please 4 Greta Van Fleet fans? Take a ride to Queens!
On May 25th, I took my son and some close friends to see Greta Van Fleet at the Forest Hills Stadium in Forest Hills in Queens, NY. Having been to hundreds of concerts, but never actually seen a show here, we didn’t know what to expect.
From the moment we parked at the Sylvan Gerard Garage on Austin Street we had no issues. Parking close to the stadium gave us a chance to explore and determine where we wanted to grab a bite before the show.
We explored up and down the main strip and settled on Rove at 72-27 Austin Street. From excellent wings and appetizers to our sandwiches, burgers, and steaks, the food was outstanding! In addition unlike some other venues that were closer to the stadium, their selection of beers and drinks was not at all limited. We all agreed that Rove was a place to recommend in the future!
We then had some time before the show and decided to check out some of the local area (Forest Hills is located in a residential neighborhood). Extremely beautiful homes and some amazing history was there to be explored.
Finally, we made our way into the Forest Hills Stadium and until we entered I had no idea what someone meant when they described it as the “Red Rocks” of New York. Once inside a fantastic venue on the site of many former professional tennis championships. It appears that there are no bad seats in this house.
Openers Ida Mae put on an energy charged opening set. This British duo brought a raw and honest sound with music that filled the stadium. A great choice for an opener.
A little after 8pm Greta Van Fleet came onstage. From opening with a cover of The Troggs “Wild Thing”, cranking through hits on their current album like “When The Curtain Falls” and “Age of Man”, or the earlier hits like “Safari Song”, “Flower Power” or “Black Smoke Rising” these guys put on a little less than 2 hour show that jammed. Capping it all of was their hit, “Highway Tune” and the crowd loved every minute of the concert!
A quick exit from the parking garage and short ride home back to the Hudson Valley, we had a fantastic time that we cannot wait to go back to.
